Aston-Martin Vanquish Performance Review.

Introduction:

The 2012 Aston-Martin Vanquish 5.9 V12 is a powered by a Petrol V 12. This variant of the Aston-Martin Vanquish 5.9 V12 is the 6 speed / Auto version and was first brought out around 2012. This was at around the same time as the introduction of the 2012 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse and the 2013 Nissan Skyline GT-R Black Edition R35.

This particular Aston-Martin Vanquish has a 5935cc Naturally Aspirated Petrol powerplant driven by the Aston-Martin Rear Wheel Drive system.

Alternative Petrol V 12's include the 2021 Aston-Martin Valkyrie Spider 6.5 V12

The Vanquish shares its Petrol V 12 engine configuration with the likes of the 2021 Aston-Martin Valkyrie Spider 6.5 V12 and the 2021 Aston-Martin Valkyrie Coupe 6.5 V12.If you're looking for other similar performing cars which share the Vanquish's Rear Wheel Drive, Coupe combination then how about the 1985 Alfa-Romeo Spider Veloce or the earlier 1982 Fiat X1/9 1.5 8V.

Power and Weight:

Weighing in at 1739 kgs (3833 lbs) places the Aston-Martin Vanquish 5.9 V12 in a similar weight category as the 2025 Toyota GR GT 4.0 V8 Twin Turbo and the excellent 2024 Alfa-Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, give or take 50kg.

Bentley Continental GT 4.0 V8 Turbo Convertible - [3996] image

The Aston-Martin Vanquish shares the same bhp with the 3996 Bentley Continental GT 4.0 V8 Turbo Convertible (542 bhp)

In terms of pure power the 5935cc 48 valve, V 12 engine produces around 565 bhp (421 kW) @ 6750 rpm which is comparable to the 3996 Bentley Continental GT 4.0 V8 Turbo Convertible (542 bhp) and also the 2025 Mercedes Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed Roadster (577 bhp).

The Naturally Aspirated V 12 throws out 457 lb-ft (619.6 Nm) @ 5500 rpm placing it with cars of similar torque performance figures such as the 2025 Maserati GranCabrio 490 (443 lb-ft) or the 2025 Maserati GranTurismo 490 (443 lb-ft).

Power to Weight:

If you look at both power or torque of the 2012 Aston-Martin Vanquish in comparison with its weight you get a much more accurate idea of its real world performance.

Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 6.2 V8 Convertible - [2023] image

The 2023 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 6.2 V8 Convertible (347.7 bhp per ton) has similar Bhp Per Ton stats as the Aston-Martin Vanquish.

The Aston-Martin Vanquish has a power to weight ratio of 324.8 bhp per ton. Bhp per ton figures of the 2012 Vanquish 5.9 V12 means you're competing with the 2023 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 6.2 V8 Convertible (347.7 bhp per ton) and the equally quick 2021 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 6.2 V8 Supercharged Convertible (347.7 bhp per ton).

Torque to Weight:

If you agree with the late great Carroll Shelby then arguably an even better indicator of potential performance is Torque!. However, torque isn't the whole story, you also need to compare weight as well for more real world comparisons such as torque per ton.

The Aston-Martin Vanquish 5.9 V12 generates around 262.7 lb-ft per ton. So if you're looking at what cars perform similarly either on the drag strip or at the traffic lights using torque to weight as a benchmark, then look no further than the 2021 McLaren Artura 3.0 V6 Turbo Hybrid (287.7 lb-ft per ton) or the similarly performing 2014 Jaguar F Type R 5.0 V8 Convertible AWD (287.6 lb-ft per ton).

Acceleration:

The Aston-Martin Vanquish 5.9 V12 can accelerate 0–60mph in 4.00 secs or 0–100km/h (0–62mph) in 4.1 secs. Acceleration rivals to the Aston-Martin Vanquish 5.9 V12 include the 3996 Bentley Continental GT 4.0 V8 Turbo Convertible (4.00 secs) or the equally as fast to 60mph 2024 Mercedes CLE Class CLE 53 4MATIC+ (4.00 secs).

The V 12 engine of the Aston-Martin Vanquish 5.9 V12 ensures that, ‘on paper’ at least, accelerates slightly faster than the 2025 Toyota Supra A90 Final Edition (4.10 secs) and the 2024 BMW 4 Series M4 Coupe (4.10 secs).

Mercedes CLK DTM Cabriolet - [2006] image

Quarter Mile time is a close race between the Aston-Martin Vanquish 5.9 V12 and the Mercedes CLK DTM Cabriolet

On a longer format for acceleration comparisons the 2012 Aston-Martin Vanquish can reach a quarter mile in an estimated 11.95 secs with a trap speed around 114.0 mph. Similar performances down the quarter mile drag strip can be found with the the Mercedes CLK DTM Cabriolet (11.96 seconds @ 113.9 mph) and a close race between the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R 5.2 V8 (11.96 seconds @ 113.9 mph) too.

Top Speed:

Some modern performance cars are often artificially restricted particularly when it comes to max speed. 155 mph top speed restrictions are often used as part of the German 'Gentleman's Agreement' for example, so be cautious when using maximum speed figures. The 2012 version of the Aston-Martin Vanquish 5.9 V12 has a maximum speed of 183mph.

Porsche Boxster GTS 4.0 982 - [2020] image

Top Speed of the 2012 Vanquish equals the Porsche Boxster GTS 4.0 982 (182 mph)

If maxing out your car on the AutoBahn is your thing and you're wondering what has a similar top end performance to the 2012 Aston-Martin Vanquish 5.9 V12 then there's the slightly slower the Porsche Boxster GTS 4.0 982 (182 mph) or how about the impressive Alfa-Romeo Disco Volante 4.7 V8 (181 mph).
