Introduction:

This edition of the Yamaha XJ 6 Diversion is the 6 speed | Manual version and was first brought out in 2009. This was at around the same time as the introduction of the 2010 Honda CBR 1000 RR Fireblade C-ABS TT Tribute and the 2010 Honda CBR 1000 RR Fireblade C-ABS.This particular Yamaha XJ 6 has a 600cc Liquid cooled, Two stroke, V4 Petrol powerplant with 4 cylinders and Electronic Fuel Injection.

Kawasaki Ninja H2 1000 SX-SE Supercharged - [2020] image

An alternative V4 engine, Sport-Touring style motorbike includes the Kawasaki Ninja H2 1000 SX-SE Supercharged - [2020]

The 2009 XJ 6 shares its V4 engine and Sport-Touring style configuration with the likes of the 2020 Kawasaki Ninja H2 1000 SX-SE Supercharged and the 2019 Kawasaki Ninja H2 1000 SX-SE Supercharged. Alternatively, if you're looking for other bikes which share the XJ 6's Sport-Touring style with a similar size of engine then how about the 1995 Suzuki RF 600 R | 1995cc.1993 Suzuki RF 600 R | 1993cc.

Power and Torque:

Weighing in at 211 kgs (465 lbs) this makes the Yamaha XJ 6 Diversion in the same weight category as the 2025 Honda X-ADV 745 or the 2025 Kawasaki Z 900 DOHC SE, give or take 50kg.

Yamaha Tnr 700 Rally - [2025] image

The 2009 Yamaha XJ 6 shares the same bhp with the Yamaha Ténéré 700 Rally - [2025]

In terms of power the 600cc 16 valve V4 4 cylinder engine produces 78 bhp (58 kW) @ 10000 rpm similar to the 2025 Yamaha Ténéré 700 Rally [72.4 bhp (53 kW) @ 9000 rpm] or the 2025 Suzuki SV 650 ABS [73 bhp (54 kW) @ 8500 rpm].

The DOHC Two stroke unit throws out torque of 44.0 lb-ft (59.7 Nm) @ 8500 rpm placing it alongside motorbikes of similar performance figures such as the 2025 Honda X-ADV 745 [50.9 lb-ft (69.0 Nm) @ 4750 rpm] and the 2025 Suzuki SV 650 ABS [47.2 lb-ft (63.9 Nm) @ 8100 rpm].

Power to Weight:

If one combines the weight with power or torque performance for the Yamaha XJ 6 you can get a better idea of it's real world performance.

Norton Commando 961 SF - [2015] image

The 2015 Norton Commando 961 SF has similar Bhp Per Ton stats as the 2009 Yamaha XJ 6 Diversion.

Power to Weight(cont.):

If you agree with the late great Carroll Shelby, then arguably an even better indicator of potential performance is Torque. Factor weight into the equation and you end up with - Torque per ton, with the Yamaha XJ 6 generating around 208.6 lb-ft per ton. If you're curious as to what other motorbikes have as much torque to weight then look no further than the 2019 Suzuki Boulevard - Intruder C 90 T [233.6 lb-ft per ton] and the 2013 Suzuki Boulevard - Intruder C 90 T [233.6 lb-ft per ton].

Acceleration:

With a 0-60mph time of 10.0 secs or a 0-100km/h (0-62mph) of 10.2 secs, this makes the Yamaha XJ 6 Diversion similar in acceleration to the 2021 Yamaha Tracer 7 GT (10.0 secs) and the 2016 Honda ST 1300 Pan European (10.0 secs). This Yamaha XJ 6 Diversion also competes in terms of 0-60 mph and 0-100km/h with the 2018 Honda CB 250 R Neo Sports Cafe (0.0 secs) and the 2020 Norton Superlight SS (0.4 secs).
