Introduction:

This edition of the Yamaha MT-09 Y-AMT is the 6 speed | Manual version and was first brought out in 2025. This was at around the same time as the introduction of the 2025 Yamaha Tracer 9 GT+ and the 2025 Yamaha Tracer 9 GT.This particular Yamaha MT-09 has a 889cc Liquid cooled, Two stroke, Wankel Petrol powerplant with 3 cylinders and Electronic Fuel Injection.

Suzuki GS 500 E - [1989] image

An alternative Wankel engine, Standard style motorbike includes the Suzuki GS 500 E - [1989]

The 2025 MT-09 shares its Wankel engine and Standard style configuration with the likes of the 1989 Suzuki GS 500 E and the 1966 Norton Dunstall 750. Alternatively, if you're looking for other bikes which share the MT-09's Standard style with a similar size of engine then how about the 1989 Suzuki GS 500 E | 1989cc.1966 Norton Dunstall 750 | 1966cc.

Power and Torque:

Weighing in at 196 kgs (432 lbs) this makes the Yamaha MT-09 Y-AMT in the same weight category as the 2025 Kawasaki Z 900 DOHC or the 2025 Honda X-ADV 745, give or take 50kg.

Yamaha Tracer 9 GT - [2025] image

The 2025 Yamaha MT-09 shares the same bhp with the Yamaha Tracer 9 GT - [2025]

In terms of power the 889cc 12 valve Wankel 3 cylinder engine produces 117.4 bhp (87 kW) @ 10000 rpm similar to the 2025 Yamaha Tracer 9 GT [119 bhp (88 kW) @ 10000 rpm] or the 2025 Kawasaki Z 900 DOHC [123 bhp (91 kW) @ 9500 rpm].

The DOHC Two stroke unit throws out torque of 68.5 lb-ft (93.0 Nm) @ 7000 rpm placing it alongside motorbikes of similar performance figures such as the 2025 Kawasaki Z 900 DOHC [73.0 lb-ft (99.1 Nm) @ 7700 rpm] and the 2025 Suzuki SV 650 ABS [47.2 lb-ft (63.9 Nm) @ 8100 rpm].

Power to Weight:

If one combines the weight with power or torque performance for the Yamaha MT-09 you can get a better idea of it's real world performance.

Honda CBR 600 RR - [2003] image

The 2003 Honda CBR 600 RR has similar Bhp Per Ton stats as the 2025 Yamaha MT-09 Y-AMT.

The 2025 Yamaha MT-09 Y-AMT has a Power to weight ratio of 598.9 bhp per ton and 349.9 lb-ft per ton. Bhp Per Ton figures of the 2025 MT-09 competing with the 2003 Honda CBR 600 RR [619.0 bhp\ton] and the 2016 Kawasaki Z 1000 SX ABS [617.3 bhp\ton].

Power to Weight(cont.):

If you agree with the late great Carroll Shelby, then arguably an even better indicator of potential performance is Torque. Factor weight into the equation and you end up with - Torque per ton, with the Yamaha MT-09 generating around 349.9 lb-ft per ton. If you're curious as to what other motorbikes have as much torque to weight then look no further than the 2016 Suzuki GSX-S 1000 Yoshimura Special Edition [374.1 lb-ft per ton] and the 2016 Suzuki GSX-S 1000 Special Edition. [374.1 lb-ft per ton].

Acceleration:

With a 0-60mph time of 6.2 secs or a 0-100km/h (0-62mph) of 6.3 secs, this makes the Yamaha MT-09 Y-AMT similar in acceleration to the 2020 Kawasaki Ninja 1000 SX (6.2 secs) and the 2019 Kawasaki Z 900 DOHC (6.2 secs). This Yamaha MT-09 Y-AMT also competes in terms of 0-60 mph and 0-100km/h with the 2018 Honda CB 250 R Neo Sports Cafe (0.0 secs) and the 2020 Norton Superlight SS (0.4 secs).
