Suzuki DL 1050 Performance Review.

Introduction:

This edition of the Suzuki DL 1050 V-Strom DE is the 6 speed | Manual version and was first brought out in 2023. This was at around the same time as the introduction of the 2023 Yamaha MXT 890 Niken GT and the 2024 Honda CBR 650 R.This particular Suzuki DL 1050 has a 1037cc Liquid cooled, Two stroke, V3 Petrol powerplant with 2 cylinders and Electronic Fuel Injection.

Honda X Eleven Four Stroke - [1999] image

An alternative V3 engine, Adventure style motorbike includes the Honda X Eleven Four Stroke - [1999]

The 2023 DL 1050 shares its V3 engine and Adventure style configuration with the likes of the 1999 Honda X Eleven Four Stroke and the 2010 Buell-EBR XB12X Ulysses Adventure. Alternatively, if you're looking for other bikes which share the DL 1050's Adventure style with a similar size of engine then how about the 2022 Honda CRF 1100 L Africa Twin DCT | 2022cc.2020 Honda CRF 1100 L Africa Twin | 2020cc.

Power and Torque:

Weighing in at 252 kgs (555 lbs) this makes the Suzuki DL 1050 V-Strom DE in the same weight category as the 2025 Kawasaki Z 900 DOHC or the 2025 Yamaha Ténéré 700, give or take 50kg.

Yamaha MT-09 Y-AMT - [2025] image

The 2023 Suzuki DL 1050 shares the same bhp with the Yamaha MT-09 Y-AMT - [2025]

In terms of power the 1037cc 8 valve V3 2 cylinder engine produces 107.4 bhp (80 kW) @ 8500 rpm similar to the 2025 Yamaha MT-09 Y-AMT [117.4 bhp (87 kW) @ 10000 rpm] or the 2025 Kawasaki Z 900 DOHC [123 bhp (91 kW) @ 9500 rpm].

The DOHC Two stroke unit throws out torque of 73.6 lb-ft (99.9 Nm) @ 6000 rpm placing it alongside motorbikes of similar performance figures such as the 2025 Honda X-ADV 745 [50.9 lb-ft (69.0 Nm) @ 4750 rpm] and the 2025 Yamaha Ténéré 700 Rally [50.2 lb-ft (68.0 Nm) @ 6500 rpm].

Power to Weight:

If one combines the weight with power or torque performance for the Suzuki DL 1050 you can get a better idea of it's real world performance.

Yamaha FZR 750 R Genesis - [1988] image

The 1988 Yamaha FZR 750 R Genesis has similar Bhp Per Ton stats as the 2023 Suzuki DL 1050 V-Strom DE.

The 2023 Suzuki DL 1050 V-Strom DE has a Power to weight ratio of 426.1 bhp per ton and 292.4 lb-ft per ton. Bhp Per Ton figures of the 2023 DL 1050 competing with the 1988 Yamaha FZR 750 R Genesis [451.0 bhp\ton] and the 1987 Yamaha FZR 750 R Genesis [451.0 bhp\ton].

Power to Weight(cont.):

If you agree with the late great Carroll Shelby, then arguably an even better indicator of potential performance is Torque. Factor weight into the equation and you end up with - Torque per ton, with the Suzuki DL 1050 generating around 292.4 lb-ft per ton. If you're curious as to what other motorbikes have as much torque to weight then look no further than the 2018 Norton Commando 961 S.F. MKII [317.0 lb-ft per ton] and the 2016 Norton Commando 961 S.F. MKII [317.0 lb-ft per ton].

Acceleration:

With a 0-60mph time of 8.7 secs or a 0-100km/h (0-62mph) of 8.9 secs, this makes the Suzuki DL 1050 V-Strom DE similar in acceleration to the 2018 Honda CBR 650 F (8.7 secs) and the 2014 Yamaha XT 1200 Z Super Tenere (8.7 secs). This Suzuki DL 1050 V-Strom DE also competes in terms of 0-60 mph and 0-100km/h with the 2018 Honda CB 250 R Neo Sports Cafe (0.0 secs) and the 2020 Norton Superlight SS (0.4 secs).
