Honda CBR 250 Performance Review.

Introduction:

This edition of the Honda CBR 250 RR is the 6 speed / Manual version and was first brought out in 2021. This was at around the same time as the introduction of the 2022 Honda CBR 650 R and the 2022 Honda CBR 1000 RR-R Fireblade SP.This particular Honda CBR 250 has a 250cc Liquid cooled, Two stroke, Transverse Petrol powerplant with 2 cylinders and Electronic Fuel Injection.

Norton Superlight SS - [2020] image

An alternative Transverse engine, Sport style motorbike includes the Norton Superlight SS - [2020]

The 2021 CBR 250 shares its Transverse engine and Sport style configuration with the likes of the 2020 Norton Superlight SS and the 2019 Norton Superlight Twin. Alternatively, if you're looking for other bikes which share the CBR 250's Sport style with a similar size of engine then how about the 1995 Suzuki RGV 250 V-Twin | 1995cc.1994 Suzuki RGV 250 V-Twin | 1994cc.

Power and Torque:

Weighing in at 168 kgs (370 lbs) this makes the Honda CBR 250 RR in the same weight category as the 2025 Yamaha Ténéré 700 Rally or the 2025 Yamaha MT-09 Y-AMT, give or take 50kg.

Honda X-ADV 745 - [2025] image

The 2021 Honda CBR 250 shares the same bhp with the Honda X-ADV 745 - [2025]

In terms of power the 250cc 8 valve Transverse 2 cylinder engine produces 41 bhp (30 kW) @ 13500 rpm similar to the 2025 Honda X-ADV 745 [57.8 bhp (43 kW) @ 6750 rpm] or the 2025 Yamaha WR 250 F [36.1 bhp (26 kW) @ 12000 rpm].

The DOHC Two stroke unit throws out torque of 18.0 lb-ft (24.4 Nm) @ 11000 rpm placing it alongside motorbikes of similar performance figures such as the 2025 Yamaha WR 250 F [17.8 lb-ft (24.2 Nm) @ 8100 rpm] and the 2024 Kawasaki Ninja 7 Hybrid [32.1 lb-ft (43.5 Nm) @ 7500 rpm].

Power to Weight:

If one combines the weight with power or torque performance for the Honda CBR 250 you can get a better idea of it's real world performance.

Yamaha GX 750 Sport - [1976] image

The 1976 Yamaha GX 750 Sport has similar Bhp Per Ton stats as the 2021 Honda CBR 250 RR.

The 2021 Honda CBR 250 RR has a Power to weight ratio of 244.0 bhp per ton and 107.1 lb-ft per ton. Bhp Per Ton figures of the 2021 CBR 250 competing with the 1976 Yamaha GX 750 Sport [269.0 bhp\ton] and the 1978 Yamaha GX 750 Sport [269.0 bhp\ton].

Power to Weight(cont.):

If you agree with the late great Carroll Shelby, then arguably an even better indicator of potential performance is Torque. Factor weight into the equation and you end up with - Torque per ton, with the Honda CBR 250 generating around 107.1 lb-ft per ton. If you're curious as to what other motorbikes have as much torque to weight then look no further than the 1987 Kawasaki GPX 400 R [132.1 lb-ft per ton] and the 1989 Honda XR 200 R [132.1 lb-ft per ton].

Acceleration:

With a 0-60mph time of 15.2 secs or a 0-100km/h (0-62mph) of 15.5 secs, this makes the Honda CBR 250 RR similar in acceleration to the 2023 Yamaha YZF-R3 DOHC (15.2 secs) and the 2022 Yamaha YZF-R3 World GP 60th Anniversary Edition (15.2 secs). This Honda CBR 250 RR also competes in terms of 0-60 mph and 0-100km/h with the 2018 Honda CB 250 R Neo Sports Cafe (0.0 secs) and the 2020 Norton Superlight SS (0.4 secs).

Yamaha XT 660 Z Tenere Easy Ride - [2009] image

Quarter Mile time is a close race between the 2021 Honda CBR 250 RR and the 2009 Yamaha XT 660 Z Tenere Easy Ride

When talking about the performance of the 2021 Honda CBR 250 RR on the drag strip it can reach a quarter mile in an estimated 14.7 secs @ 0 mph. Bikes with a similar performance down the quarter mile can be found in the 2009 Yamaha XT 660 Z Tenere Easy Ride (14.7 secs) and the 1983 Kawasaki Gpz 305 SOHC (14.7 secs).

Top Speed:

The 2021 version of the Honda CBR 250 RR has a maximum speed of 111mph.

Yamaha FZR 400 RR-SP - [1994] image

Top Speed of the 2021 CBR 250 equals the 1994 Yamaha FZR 400 RR-SP

If maxing out your bike on the AutoBahn is your thing and you're wondering what's faster at the top end than the 2021 Honda CBR 250 RR then how about a 1994 Yamaha FZR 400 RR-SP (122 mph) and the 1992 Yamaha FZR 400 RR-SP (122 mph).
