Nissan Skyline Performance Review.

Introduction:

The 2013 Nissan Skyline GT-R Black Edition R35 is a powered by a Petrol V 6. This variant of the Nissan Skyline GT-R Black Edition R35 is the 6 speed / Semi-Auto version and was first brought out around 2013. This was at around the same time as the introduction of the 2014 Tesla Model S P100D Ludicrous Performance and the 2014 Koenigsegg One 1 5.1 V8 Twin Turbo.

This particular Nissan Skyline has a 3799cc Bi-Turbo Petrol powerplant driven by the Nissan All Wheel Drive system.

Radical RXC 3.5 V6 Twin Turbo - [2014] image

Alternative Petrol V 6's include the 2014 Radical RXC 3.5 V6 Twin Turbo

The Skyline shares its Petrol V 6 engine configuration with the likes of the 2014 Radical RXC 3.5 V6 Twin Turbo and the 2024 Maserati GT2 Stradale. If you're looking for other similar performing cars which share the Skyline's All Wheel Drive, Coupe combination then how about the 2024 Aspark Owl AWD or the earlier 2019 Pininfarina Battista 1900.

Power and Weight:

Weighing in at 1740 kgs (3836 lbs) places the Nissan Skyline GT-R Black Edition R35 in a similar weight category as the 2025 Toyota GR GT 4.0 V8 Twin Turbo and the excellent 2024 Alfa-Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, give or take 50kg.

Bentley Continental GT 4.0 V8 Turbo Convertible - [3996] image

The Nissan Skyline shares the same bhp with the 3996 Bentley Continental GT 4.0 V8 Turbo Convertible (542 bhp)

In terms of pure power the 3799cc 24 valve, V 6 engine produces around 545 bhp (406 kW) @ 6800 rpm which is comparable to the 3996 Bentley Continental GT 4.0 V8 Turbo Convertible (542 bhp) and also the 2025 BMW 2 Series M2 CS Bi-Turbo (523 bhp).

The Bi-Turbo V 6 throws out 463 lb-ft (627.7 Nm) @ 3300 rpm placing it with cars of similar torque performance figures such as the 2025 BMW 2 Series M2 CS Bi-Turbo (479 lb-ft) or the 2025 Maserati GranCabrio 490 (443 lb-ft).

Power to Weight:

If you look at both power or torque of the 2013 Nissan Skyline in comparison with its weight you get a much more accurate idea of its real world performance.

Lotus 2-Eleven 1.8 Supercharged - [2007] image

The 2007 Lotus 2-Eleven 1.8 Supercharged (338.2 bhp per ton) has similar Bhp Per Ton stats as the Nissan Skyline.

The Nissan Skyline has a power to weight ratio of 313.2 bhp per ton. Bhp per ton figures of the 2013 Skyline GT-R Black Edition R35 means you're competing with the 2007 Lotus 2-Eleven 1.8 Supercharged (338.2 bhp per ton) and the equally quick 2018 Nissan Skyline GT-R NISMO R35 (338.2 bhp per ton).

Torque to Weight:

If you agree with the late great Carroll Shelby then arguably an even better indicator of potential performance is Torque!. However, torque isn't the whole story, you also need to compare weight as well for more real world comparisons such as torque per ton.

The Nissan Skyline GT-R Black Edition R35 generates around 266.0 lb-ft per ton. So if you're looking at what cars perform similarly either on the drag strip or at the traffic lights using torque to weight as a benchmark, then look no further than the 2021 BMW 5 Series M5 CS 4.4 V8 Turbo F90 (291.0 lb-ft per ton) or the similarly performing 2009 Bentley Mulsanne 6.8 V8 Twin Turbo (290.9 lb-ft per ton).

Acceleration:

The Nissan Skyline GT-R Black Edition R35 can accelerate 0–60mph in 2.70 secs or 0–100km/h (0–62mph) in 2.8 secs. Acceleration rivals to the Nissan Skyline GT-R Black Edition R35 include the 2025 Ferrari 296 3.0 V6 Speciale (2.70 secs) or the equally as fast to 60mph 2024 Audi RS e-Tron GT (2.70 secs).

The V 6 engine of the Nissan Skyline GT-R Black Edition R35 ensures that, ‘on paper’ at least, accelerates slightly faster than the 2025 Maserati MCPURA 3.0 V6 Twin Turbo (2.80 secs) and the 2025 Maserati MCPURA Cielo 3.0 V6 Twin Turbo (2.80 secs).

Porsche 911 Turbo 997 - [2006] image

Quarter Mile time is a close race between the Nissan Skyline GT-R Black Edition R35 and the Porsche 911 Turbo 997

On a longer format for acceleration comparisons the 2013 Nissan Skyline can reach a quarter mile in an estimated 11.72 secs with a trap speed around 116.2 mph. Similar performances down the quarter mile drag strip can be found with the the Porsche 911 Turbo 997 (11.73 seconds @ 116.1 mph) and a close race between the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat 6.2 V8 (11.73 seconds @ 116.1 mph) too.

Top Speed:

Some modern performance cars are often artificially restricted particularly when it comes to max speed. 155 mph top speed restrictions are often used as part of the German 'Gentleman's Agreement' for example, so be cautious when using maximum speed figures. The 2013 version of the Nissan Skyline GT-R Black Edition R35 has a maximum speed of 196mph.

Aston-Martin Vanquish 5.9 V12 - [2000] image

Top Speed of the 2013 Skyline equals the Aston-Martin Vanquish 5.9 V12 (195 mph)

If maxing out your car on the AutoBahn is your thing and you're wondering what has a similar top end performance to the 2013 Nissan Skyline GT-R Black Edition R35 then there's the slightly slower the Aston-Martin Vanquish 5.9 V12 (195 mph) or how about the impressive Lamborghini Gallardo 5.0 V10 Spyder (195 mph).
